Groundbreakers

Grades 6 & 7

For these Basecampers, it’s time to hit the long trails. We learn the basics of backpacking as we take part in a three day trek while packing your own food and shelter. Teamwork and adaptability are discovered through valleys and peaks. Here, you are crew, not merely passengers. Discover self sufficiency in the backcountry!

Groundbreakers will spend 2 nights camping near the main campsite with access to bathrooms and lake for swimming and boat sports. The other 2 nights of camp will be spent in the backcountry - hiking with a full pack, breaking down and rebuilding camp, and carrying all their food for those days! There will be no bathrooms or running water and they will get to learn what it takes to survive in the mountains for a few days and nights!

Check out the example schedules of a day of day camp for our first week in NYC and a day of sleep away camp during our second week at Harriman State Park.
