Trek from hut to hut through the ridges and valleys of the Whites. First time trekkers will be able to look forward to the shelter of the huts and a farm fresh meal at the end of each day.

After meeting up in Concord, we’ll head toward an iconic section of the Appalachian Trail - the White Mountains. Beginning on the south west end, we drive from Concord to the trailhead that takes us to our first night at the Lonesome Lake Hut.

From Hut to Hut, we’ll trek, following the paths of centuries of hikers. We’ll wind over rock ridges of the Franconia Loop, through the remote Pemigewasset Wilderness, and past giant waterfalls. Each day we travel 5-8 miles, reaching the huts in early afternoon in time to rest, swim in lakes, explore side trails, and enjoy a warm meal prepared from local farm ingredients.

Take in the views, the sunsets, and the fields of wildflowers. Feel the rhythm of the mountains as you rise day after day, walk and climb, and fall asleep listening to the wind. Bird watching, plant identifying, and a growing closeness with nature come as we transition from “visiting” to “living” in the mountains.

For the final push, we will arise early, and Summit Mt. Washington (6,288 ft). We celebrate at the Summit with cheers and hugs. As a reward for our hard work, we ride “The Cog” (famous old railroad) down the mountainside back into town at sunset. We’ll stay the night in Bretton Woods and prepare for trip end the following morning.

White Mountain Trailblazer is a perfect introduction to thru trekking, and while not technically “introductory” rated, provides a perfect opportunity for budding mountaineers. Staying in huts saves Basecampers the weight of carrying shelters and food with them, enabling them to hike quicker and be less encumbered. This trip provides a good balance of movement and rest, with days strategically planned for a steady, achievable pace. Along the route, Basecampers will have opportunities to master Cairns and Summits and will emerge from this trip with feeling of achievement.

Each day seemed better than the last!
I met a lot of new funny people who I made great friends with. I will definitely be coming back next year for the 2019 summer.
